Position Summary

About the role:

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and passionate Chef/Cook to join the team in Hawthorn. Reporting into the Senior Chef/Hotel Services Coordinator the focus of this role is to provide high quality, nutritious meals and exceptional service to our residents to enhance their daily lives.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide leadership, mentoring and supervision to all members of the Catering team and promote a harmonious team approach to the delivery of exceptional catering services.

This includes:

  • Planning, ordering and preparing meals in a way that will enhance the resident’s dining experience, in line with all specialised diets, including supplements and texture modified foods as outlined by the IDDSI Guidelines 
  • Ensuring a high level of compliance with all food safety guidelines and HACCP procedures
  • Management of food safety risks and the preparation of reports and other documentation for the Hotel Services Coordinator/Manager

  • Hold a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent) (remove if not relevant)
  • Have experience in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Have worked with specialised diets, including supplements and texture modified foods (IDDSI Guidelines)
  • Are fully conversant with HACCP and food safety legislation
  • Have the initiative and ability to work without supervision
  • Availability to increase your hours – pick up extra shifts when they are available (remove if not relevant)
  • Thrive in a team and also appreciate the one to one interactions
  • A commitment to being part of a workplace culture based on the BEST way of life (Believe, Excel, Support and Trust)
  • A willingness to work within the ethos of the Uniting Church 

You will need:

  • A current Working With Children’s Check (VIC)/Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (TAS) (or willing to obtain one)
  • Full Australian working rights and a current police records check (or be willing to undertake this process)
  • A current flu vaccination and be prepared to meet this annual requirement
